★ Name Tousaka Tooru ★ Age 16 ★ Gender Male ★ Date of Birth July 23 ★ Star Sign Leo ★ Blood A ★ Height 5’2” ★ Subject Mythology ★ Homeroom 1-C ★ Club Gardening ★ Sport Basketball ★ Likes ☆ Flowers ^ u ^ ☆ Gardening > w < ☆ Home-cooked meals * q * ☆ Sugar cookies ☆ Oversized sweaters ★ Dislikes ☆ People who don’t take care of their plants = o = ☆ Blunt people > A <’’ ☆ People who make fun of his height ; ^ ; ☆ Spicy food @ A @ ★ Personality Friendly – On the outside, Tooru is outgoing and enjoys talking to new people. He can sound optimistic and confident, but that’s only because he wants to bring people’s spirits up.
Eager to please – He’ll try his best to make his friends happy. He hates seeing his friends sad and will bake sugar cookies for them (they’ll be shaped as flowers, though).
Sensitive – He may act strong, sound confident, and brush words off easily, but deep down inside, he is very sensitive and takes words seriously. But he doesn’t like to stay upset and tries his best to stay positive and optimistic!
Worrisome – He’s scared of what people thinks of him. He hates being judged.
Crybaby – Because he is sensitive, he is prone to crying, whether to cry out of sadness or happiness. However, he tries very hard to not cry in front of others…so he runs away from people when he’s on the verge of tears.
Communicates with flowers – Whether Tooru really dislikes someone, really likes someone, feels very grateful or happy, he has trouble expressing it with words because he gets nervous and tense. So instead of using words to express his sappy feelings, he uses floriography and sends people flowers that represents his feelings (even if he knows that the person might not understand floriography).
Clumsy – He can be pretty clumsy when he’s nervous and jittery. Q_Q He doesn’t think at all when he’s nervous.
Sugarcoats EVERYTHING – He hates making people upset (and afraid that people will get mad at him), so he always sugarcoats his words. He hates conflicts and prefers everyone to be happy! ★ Biography Tooru lives with his mother and father, but his father was constantly busy and always returned home late, so Tooru never spent a lot of time with him. He became close with his mother, who was a housewife. His mother was kind and soft spoken and had a passion for flowers and they had a small garden of flowers outside their backyard. Tooru gained an interest in flowers, fascinated by the many varieties and colors they had, and began to help his mother with gardening.
He was an average cheerful kid in middle school. He loved running and track and field. During his last year in middle school, he became interested in basketball. However, due to his short height (he was the shortest boy in his class), he was told and even made fun of that he wouldn’t be able to become a good basketball player. It wasn't uncommon for people to make fun of his height.
Tooru was hurt by his classmates’ words but constantly forced a smile and a positive attitude. He would brush off their words and laugh about it, but the words still lingered and made him depressed every now and then. But when he returned home, he forgot about them the moment he saw his mother.
As time passed, his mother introduced him to floriography, the language of flowers. Before Tooru was born, Tooru’s mother was a florist who owned a small independent flower shop and made arrangements for many occasions. Tooru was fascinated by the symbolism that flowers had and began to study floriography, hoping to make beautiful arrangements just like his mother.
But Tooru never told his friends about his interest in flowers because he noticed that everyone who had an interest for flowers and gardening was…female. When he hinted about flowers to some of his male friends, they simply brushed it off and said it was boring to talk about. Tooru eventually met a girl who liked flowers, but she didn't know anything about floriography or arrangements. As Tooru tried to explain, several of his classmates listened to his conversation and began to tease him even more.
Tooru couldn't brush off their words this time and felt embarrassed and even ashamed to like such a 'girly hobby', so he returned home with tears in his eyes. His mother tried to comfort him, but Tooru pushed her away, telling her that he just wanted to become taller and have a hobby that people wouldn't make fun of.
The morning after, Tooru woke up with a pot of sunflowers on his desk, something that his mother arranged for him. Tooru was still upset, however. He avoided spending time with her and stopped maintaining the garden and stopped studying floriography. He even stopped playing basketball. But even though he gave his mother the cold shoulder, Tooru woke up every day with a new arrangement of flowers on his desk. The new arrangements always included sunflowers.
One day, Tooru’s mother fell sick and had to be sent to the hospital. Although it wasn't too serious, he felt incredibly guilty that he constantly pushed her aside when she was the only person who tried to make him happy. His father was worried, but he couldn’t stop working and couldn’t visit her in the hospital. Tooru wished that he could do something to make her feel happy, and then he suddenly remembered how his mother always gave him a pot of flowers whenever he was upset.
He then decided to do the same for her.
Tooru resumed studying floriography and with all of his allowance, he went to his local flower shop after school and made his own flower arrangements. After he finished, he rushed to the hospital to visit his mother and give her the get well soon gift. They weren't very well arranged, but his mother was happy. He wanted to show her how much he cared about his her, and because he was never good at confessing with words, he wanted to show her through the language of flowers. He visited the hospital everyday with a new flower arrangement for her until she recovered.
After a week, his mother recovered from her illness and returned home. Because of Tooru, the garden was well-maintained and Tooru did his best to keep the house clean. Tooru realized that he truly loves floriography and he shouldn’t change just because some people may find it weird. He even picked up basketball again. Even though he’s not very good at basketball due to his height, he loved the sport.
Tooru now attends Hoshizora High, but he still can’t handle people teasing and being painfully blunt to him, so he tries not to talk about flowers. And because he doesn’t like confrontations, he tries his best to avoid them by running away (he might send a bouquet full of petunias if they he strongly dislikes them, though). ★ Miscellaneous ☆ As much as he loves homemade meals, he’s not a very good cook. He can make sugar cookies, though. ☆ Even when he’s in the gardening club, he won’t talk about flowers and floriography much (as much as he wants to) because he’s afraid that people will judge him. ☆ He hopes that he'll become extremely tall one day (LOL)! ☆ His favorite flower is the sunflower!!
